If you are on a diet and the exercises aren’t showing some results, then you should check the levels of your leptin. The main task of this hormone is to balance your weight and it does it in two ways. It signals the brain when should we eat and it stimulates the fatty tissues to burn the energy.
The people who are overweight have leptin resistance, it looks like the leptin is not functioning properly because the bodies in the fatty people release more leptin in order to create a balance and to burn more fat.
How leptin resistance happens
If the levels of leptin are higher for a longer period of time the body loses its sensitivity to it so the brain doesn’t listen to the hormone when it tells the brain to stop eating. In this way the metabolism isn’t working properly and it is difficult to lose weight. People suffering from leptin resistance have excess stomach fat and are prone to inflammation.
The intake of low amounts of calories or strict diets may be another reason for leptin resistance. Then the leptin tells the brain that it needs more food.
