Early signs of cervical cancer!

The initial stages of cervical cancer or pre-cancer are without any symptoms. As the cancer grows the symptoms begin to appear but sometimes it might be too late.

Therefore, it is very important to make a regular PAP test which can discover the early changes and abnormal cells.

Here are the early symptoms of cervical cancer

  • Irregular bleeding

Vaginal bleeding is the most common symptom of cervical cancer. If you experience bleeding between cycles or after sex, then you should visit your doctor. It might not be a classical bleeding just spotting but it needs a medical attention. This symptom is most common in post-menopausal women.

  • Unusual vaginal discharge

Pay attention to these changes in your vaginal discharge:

  • Tinged with blood
  • Foul-smelling
  • Brown
  • Watery
  • Pale

 

  • Pelvic pain

Pelvic pain especially during or after intercourse is another symptom that shouldn’t be ignored. This could also indicate some abnormal changes.

  • Signs of advanced stages of cervical cancer

  • Weight loss
  • Swelling in the legs
  • Difficulty going to the bathroom
  • Pelvic or back pain

 

  • Risk factors for cervical cancer

The first thing to do is to watch the symptoms and make regular PAP tests but here are some risk factors:

  • Mother’s use of diethylstilbestrol during pregnancy
  • A compromised immune system
  • Having sex with a man whose partner has cervical cancer
  • Smoking
  • Having sex at young age for the first time
  • Having many sexual partners
